Peter Tessier: Did Dumba set the Bar for Trouba? Could Dumba's contract help the Jets when trying to sign Trouba?

No. Trouba is by far the more complete player.

no, unless they are trying to sign him on a bridge deal.
Even then, he will get more than Dumba on a bridge

if Trouba wants a long term deal I'd say 5 per year and thats based on potential, he's not worth that now. I don't see the jets taking that kind of risk without Trouba showing the team his value. 2 years 3 per year on a bridge deal...

8YR/$40-44M would be smart IMO

I'd agree to that. Seth Jones 5.4 AAV should be doable for a long term deal.

Might have to go a little closer to $6M though on an 8 year deal as you would be buying more years of free agency.

I'd do the 6 @ 5.4 just like Jones. Then after that if he really rather play somewhere else, then he would have earned the right to do so. Right now, all trouba has earned is the privilege to play in the NHL.

It will change but Trouba's camp won't care about comparisons. They are still at the $7 per number and asking for #2 RHD spot . My guess is they end up at 8 year $5.75

Barrie is another comparable and that will be resolved today. With Dumba, Jones and Barrie there are ample relevant comparisons to establish a current value. I think the trick will be in determining length. I could see a 2 year bridge deal at around 3M per, or a 5 year deal at similar AAV to Jones. If they do manage to agree on an 8 year deal it will take about 5.75 AAV to get it done IMO.

If he doesn't really want to be in winnipeg then it might have to be an overpayment for 8. Like 6.5 a year. High enough number that he can't turn it down.

4-5 years makes more sense. 4 years ends rfa status for him.

Unless you have a direct contact with either side, this comment is pure speculation, IMO. The market has been established severAL times and he will not get 7. Unless, however, he is trying to price himself out of Winnipeg

Reilly's developed nicely. Trouba's developed sideways if not actually regressed. God forbid he try to use whatever Lindholm gets as a measuring stick.

He obviously hasn't dominated to put himself in place to be the number one D man. He has the potential to play a key role for years on a team with a bright future and most players his same age. If he doesn't see that as an opportunity and wants out, then get rid of the guy, but only at a fair value to the team. He is Trouba not Orr!

I'm trying to think of the number of games he won for the team last year.....

Trouba has done nothing to earn more than a 2yr bridge deal Dumba has.
